In the last decade we have seen an extreme uptick in the dangerous rhetoric, name calling, weaponizing of the court system and politics of just pure hate. It has succeeded in taking the United States from the worlds leader to an almost second class nation in the eyes of the world. How can we be the worlds leader when we can’t even keep our house united?
This goes beyond the average person and extends into the hidden halls of our democratic system. Both parties claim to have the best interest of the country in their actions but it all boils down to each party’s world view, how to achieve it and staying in control to get it done. It really isn’t done with We The People making the decisions but it is We The People as an afterthought and following in the parties wakes. I never disliked someone because they are Democrats or Republicans when I was younger but now the parties are telling us that the either is evil incarnate, each side says the other will bring down our Democracy. This is just some of the inflammatory comments being put forward by both sides.
Your neighbor looks across the street now with anger in their eyes because you have a Trump or Harris lawn sign. Many folks won’t even announce their party or voting affiliation for fear one of their neighbors or a complete stranger will do them harm, all because the party leaders have inflamed the political climate and landscape. In most cases they don’t have our best interests at heart but a view of the world thart doesn’t include how will I feed my family, how will I pay the mortgage, can I actually retire when I need to and can I afford my meds or doctors this month. They have left these things behind because they have money to easily afford these things, can you say ‘Let them eat cake’. They now focus on other pet projects to afix their attention to. I’m not saying we have a climate, energy other climates but we can’t fix them as a single nation alone and We The People can’t afford to live either in a clean environment or a dirty one.
Each side say it is the other and their tone of hatred and demonizing that has led to two attempts on a presidential candidate’s life, for bomb threats in a small town in rural USA or just the fact that neighbors and even family members just don’t trust each other.
I say both sides are to blame in all cases, there are very many good people in both parties but as in any case there will be those fringe members who can be triggered by words and policies into violent actions or responses. Riots in Minneapolis, storming the capital, bomb threats in Springfield or assassination attempts. These are just the ones we have seen but how many more there will be or have happened.
You can’t make comments about a racial community killing pets without facts, tell people we need to eliminate someone for their party or views, tell your followers to accost members of the other party if you see them in public, put a bullseye on someone and much more. Words are very powerful and can drive citizens to strange lengths because of them. It is time for both sides to lower the temperature and just get back to the idea of politics and campaigning on the how you will make We The People’s life better and provide a vision of the future for our children. The parties in the end will keep their power, fund their pet projects and move on, forgetting us until the next election leaving us with all the things we worry about and no solutions. They will leave us divided against each other because it ensure their power.
In closing, I implore both parties to tone things down and stop weaponizing your factions so you can keep power. Bring forward a vision that takes into account real world problems that face the people that includes future issues for climate and new directions. Bring us together, don’t divide us for the party’s benefit but unite us for the good of our country.
